What is my username?

A username is a set of characters and numbers that individually allows you to be recognised on a large network. The CHEC usernames are formulated to a maximum of 8 characters with no spaces using the following method:

• Internal SCU student: First initial of your first name + first five characters of your surname + 1 + Alphanumeric, e.g John Smithville is jsmith10
• External SCU student: First initial of your first name + first five characters of your surname + 2 + Alphanumeric, e.g John Smithville is jsmith22
• TAFE student: First initial of your first name + first five characters of your surname + 600, e.g John Smithville is jsmith600
• Senior College student: First initial of your first name + first five characters of your surname + 700, e.g John Smithville is jsmith700
• ELC student: First initial of your first name + first five characters of your surname + 800, e.g John Smithville is jsmith800

Login Definition: The account name used to gain access to a system/computers.

When do I get a login?

• SCU Students - straight away
• TAFE Students - within 48 hours of enrolling (early Feburary)
• CHSC Students - end of January

Passwords

Default passwords

• For SCU and ELC students - Your default password is initially set to your date of birth in the form 'ddmmyyyy'. Only enter the numbers, no spaces or hyphens.
• For TAFE students - Your default password is initially set to your date of birth in the form 'ddmmyyyy'. Only enter the numbers, no spaces or hyphens.
• For CHSC students - Your default password is initially set to your date of birth in the form 'ddmmyyyy'. Only enter the numbers, no spaces or hyphens.

At the start of every year your password is reset to the default password.

Forgotten passwords

If you have forgotten your password then you need to visit the Help Desk with photo ID.

Changing your password

Passwords have a minimum of 8 characters and a maximum of 10. Hint - try to make them all similar and something you will remember.

• TAFE and CHSC Students - On Campus: Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select change a password, type in old password, new password, confirm new password and click arrow button.
• SCU Students - MyEnrolment/MySCU/Email/Wireless:Change Password*
• TAFE/CHSC Students - Email/Internet/TAFE Moodle:
  1. Login to DEC Portal*^
  2. Click on MyProfile tab
  3. Click on the Change My DEC User ID Password link
  4. Type in your new password
  5. Retype in your new password to confirm that you correctly typed it in
  6. Click on the Ok button
  7. You will receive a message that your passwords have successfully changed, click on the Ok button again
