Student Learning Centre
The Student Learning Centre (SLC) is a specialist, supported teaching/learning
area made up of nine bays and a large open area. Some bays consist of a large table which seats up to 10 people plus one computer (Mac or Windows) with a large monitor, which makes these bays ideal for group work or for quiet individual work.
Other bays consist
of 4 computers (Mac or Windows) like a mini lab which makes these
ideal for either individual or group work - where each person requires
a computer work.
The
SLC can be used in
a group situation, lecture/tutor situation, for a group project or individual
purposes. Bookings can be made for Bays and/or computers as well as portable
equipment.

What
you need to do to print from a computer in the SLC:
- Have valid
student/staff ID or print card.
- Have credit
already added to your account before requiring to print a colour document
(see separate hand out "Print cost recovery system" from brochure
stand in SLC and Help Desk).
- Ensure
your document is how you want it to be, by selecting print preview before
you print. You will be charged for any printing once you release it
from the print release station in the SLC so best to make sure it is
exactly how you want it to look (see separate handout "Print saving
tips" available from brochure stand in SLC and Help Desk).
- Ensure
you select the correct printer when printing, as the amount of credit
deducted from your account will vary according to which printer you
send to.
- Be aware
of the new printing procedure for releasing your print job from the
queue, or follow the instructions displayed on the wall behind the print
release station in SLC.
- From January
2004 Staff work related printing will be charged to your sector in a
similar way as photocopying.
Software
The computers have the same software found on machines in the general
purpose computer labs at CHEC plus additional software specific to the SLC, as
